Who is The FIT MUMS Physio?

Amy Laurie is the owner and director of The FIT MUMS Physio. After graduating as a Physiotherapist in 2009, Amy worked within a number of settings including hospital, community health and private practice. Throughout each of her roles she began to develop a keen interest in the women’s health field.

After falling pregnant and delivering her first daughter Hannah in 2016, Amy's passion for all things women’s health grew immensely, particularly prenatal and postnatal women's health.

Physio Amy is caring, sensitive and thorough in her assessment and management of each woman, ensuring all their needs are met and looked after.

What services are available at The FIT MUMS Physio?

  • Prenatal Fitness Classes (Pilates Studio & Gym Classes)
  • Postnatal Fitness Classes (Pilates Studio & Mums & Bub Gym Classes)
  • Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Consultation
  • Return Exercise/Running Assessment
  • Clinical Pilates Assessment (Pilates Reformer and Small Group Pilates Classes)

At The FITMUM Program we appreciate that every woman’s physiotherapy needs are different.

During your initial assessment, Amy will conduct extensive questioning about your pelvic floor function as well as your bladder and bowel habits to allow for the best diagnosis and treatment. If the patient is comfortable then Amy will proceed to conduct an internal vaginal examination as this will enable her to thoroughly assess any areas of weakness, spasm or change to your pelvic floor muscles and to assess for any degree of vaginal prolapse of your pelvic organs. An internal examination will ensure Amy can make the most accurate diagnosis and thereby provide the best management plan. All of this cannot be achieved externally.

As required, Amy will communicate with any other health professionals involved – your regular physiotherapist, referring doctor or gynaecologist/obstetrician to achieve the best outcome for you.

What should I expect?

Currently Physio Amy is not taking any new 1 on 1 patients but does have group fitness and clinical pilates options available to you.

If you need to first see a Women's Health Physiotherapist for an internal examination or post birth check up Physio Amy can recommend other practitioners that she has worked closely with.

You do not need a referral to see our women’s health physiotherapist, but you may be referred by your GP or obstetrician/gynaecologist.
